How Revolutions Get Started
Ivan Battle, Brittney Williams, Tim Craig, and Sandy Sardar in the Theatre UAB production
A nice opportunity for two actors who specialize in silent expression! A pair of maintenance workers listen in escalating astonishment as their employers complain about how difficult their own lives are and how hard they work.
I imagine we've all felt like them at one time or another. In fact, this play's dialogue comes -- almost word-for-word -- from a conversation two of my employers held within my hearing at one of the temp jobs I did as a young man.
Once you've read the play you'll understand why I hasten to add that I did NOT respond the way the maintenance people in this play do.
I may have thought about it, but I didn't do it.
This script, along with a few other short scripts of mine, is in the collection PUSHED TO THE LIMIT.

VEEP It does mean you never get a moment's rest.
CEO Oh, that's true. Straight out of school and into the office. The vicious cycle.
VEEP No escape for us.
CEO And that guy saying we don't know what it means to work hard.
VEEP I'm here every morning at ten o'clock no matter what!
CEO And I've never seen you leave before six. Unless you've got an appointment on the golf course or something like that, but --
VEEP That's the other thing -- people see us out on the course and they think we're playing.
CEO Biggest deals I ever made were made on the golf course.
VEEP Restaurants -- same thing. They see us dining out and they think we're having a party.
CEO God, I'd love to go to a nice restaurant just for the food and the wine and the atmosphere. But no!
VEEP Grind grind grind.
