Written especially for the youth group at Cahaba Valley Church, this script has gone on to entertain and bless many more people than I ever dreamed. Widely circulated now by Lillenas Drama Resources, ROCK is considered by many to be the ideal play for a large youth group with some advanced acting and technical skills.
The basic idea
It's a modern-day telling of the Christ story, with emphasis on the relationship between Jesus and Simon Peter. The setting is apparently contemporary America, so parallels are drawn between our world and that of First-Century Judea.
As more and more followers are drawn to the mysterious and intriguing young man alternately called Josh and The Teacher, the forces of organized crime and organized religion find themselves forming unlikely alliances in their desire to suppress the radicals.
Throughout it all, a young man named Simon struggles to understand the ideas Josh wants him to grasp -- ideas that seem upside-down in relation to everything Simon has ever known.
